CHENNAI: AIADMK general secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has condemned the attack on Chief Justice of India BR Gavai inside the Supreme Court.

“The incident of the attack on Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, inside the Supreme Court premises, has shocked the entire nation. Violence of any kind, especially in such sacred institutions of justice, is unacceptable and must be condemned in the strongest terms,” he said in his social media message.

He said Justice Gavai’s composed and dignified response amidst the chaos stands as a testament to his integrity, courage, and steadfast belief in the ideals of our Constitution.

Protests were held across the country and in Tamil Nadu, condemning the attempted attack. Advocates in the Cuddalore court organised a symbolic protest and sought the arrest of the lawyer involved in the shoe-throwing incident. Advocates in Villupuram and many other places walked away from court proceedings in protest against the attack on the CJI.

In Dindivanam, advocates skipped court proceedings in solidarity with the CJI.
