CHENNAI: BJP State president K Annamalai on Monday urged the State government to conduct special medical camps in schools to control the spread of H1N1 influenza virus spread among school children.
“The spread of H1N1 influenza virus in Tamil Nadu has been increasing in Chennai and other districts for the past few days. The increasing number of children coming for treatment with fever in many hospitals in Chennai is worrying,” he tweeted.
To control the spread of H1N1 influenza virus, the State government should take preventive measures like conducting medical camps in schools with a high number of students with the help of the school education department and government doctors, he said, adding that wearing face masks in public places should be made mandatory until the spread of H1N1 influenza virus slows down.
Annamalai also wrote to Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya to depute a critical response team to the State to assess the situation and provide any assistance that the government require. He said that the State is reporting a rise of 200 cases daily and the total cases now stand at 1,044.
