CHENNAI: In the backdrop of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) showing a clear direction to the State unit of the party, the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) will hold a crucial Executive Committee meeting on January 20, 2026, at 12 noon at the Sathyamurthy Bhavan in Chennai, under the leadership of its president K Selvaperunthagai.

After the Delhi AICC's preparatory meeting, this Executive Committee meeting will focus on preparations for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections and discuss key organisational and mass outreach activities of the party in the state, as AICC has sent a message not go harsh against 'trusted' ally Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).

Several senior Congress leaders are expected to attend, including Leader of the Congress Legislature Party S Rajeshkumar, MLA, AICC Tamil Nadu in-charge Girish Chodankar, and AICC secretaries Suraj MN Hegde and Nivedith Alva.

Emphasising the importance of the meeting, the TNCC president Selvaperunthagai has urged all state executive committee members and special invitees to attend without fail. The deliberations are expected to shape the party’s strategy and organisational roadmap ahead of the crucial 2026 Assembly polls in Tamil Nadu.

All eyes are on the crucial TNCC meeting to see whether a section of the Congress party, vocal about sharing power with the DMK in case of a win in the Assembly polls, tones down its stand.
