CHENNAI: Former DMK strongman and its president MK Stalin’s elder brother MK Alagiri’s daughter Kayalvizhi visited the Secretariat on Friday, triggering speculation about her possible formal entry into active politics by joining the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.
Sources said Kayalvizhi, who was part of the DMK’s women’s wing before fading away, met senior ministers during her visit.
Kayalvizhi had drawn attention during the Assembly election campaign after making remarks about her father's long absence from mainstream politics. Comparing Alagiri's political isolation led to Lord Ram’s exile in mythology, she had said that while "Rama" underwent 14 years of exile, her father had been sidelined unjustly for 15 years.
Her comments had triggered criticism from sections within the DMK. However, that did not prevent Kayalvizhi from making her intentions clear, even if indirectly. One such move came after the election, when she attended the swearing-in ceremony of Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, where she reportedly praised the new government and described the political development as one that created a new history in Tamil Nadu.
With these developments in the backdrop, her visit to the Secretariat on Friday has intensified speculation over a possible association with the TVK.
Speculations are rife that she could even be considered for a key electoral role in Madurai, including a possible candidature for the Mayor post in upcoming local body elections.
