Piyush Manush was reportedly assaulted by BJP workers on Wednesday when he visited their party office and raised issues relating to Kashmir and the country’s economy. The party workers there then greeted him with a slipper garland and snatched away his mobile phone before thrashing him, sources said. The cops rescued him and took him to Salem government hospital for treatment. The activist, who is still undergoing treatment at the hospital, said that BJP workers were constantly issuing threats to him on social media.
“I went to the BJP office to enquire on economic reforms and the Kashmir issue. Then, the party workers assaulted and attempted to kill me. Action should be taken against the assaulters after holding prompt investigation,” Piyush told media.
In January this year, the social activist had filed a complaint with the Salem police against members of a Hindu outfit over alleged harassment and threats.
The police booked around ten BJP workers for assaulting the activist, while Piyush has been booked on seven counts, including trespassing and issuing threats.
Meanwhile, police personnel have been posted at the BJPoffice and at Piyush’s house as a precaution. Further investigations are on.
