60 damaged TNHB buildings to be demolished in TN, says minister S Muthusamy

Minister for Housing and Urban Development S Muthusamy on Sunday said that 60 damaged buildings of Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB) will be demolished and new ones will be constructed.

Speaking to media after inspecting the TNHB quarters at ‘Ayyanthirumaligai’ in Salem, the minister said that out of the total 195 TNHB buildings across the state, efforts would be taken to demolish 60 buildings and build new ones.

Further, the minister said that efforts are on to collect the pending rental amount by constituting a committee led by a High Court judge. The minister also said that 658 houses in ‘Ayyanthirumaligai’ quarters and another 96 houses near Salem district collector office were unfit to reside.

“Hence, it was discussed with the district collector and concerned officials to carry out construction works,” he said.
