50 goats killed as bus ploughs into herd

As many as 50 goats died on the spot after a TNSTC bus run over them at Mandaiyur in Tiruchy-Pudukkottai national highway in the early hours of Friday.

Duraisamy (44), a resident of Thennalur in Pudukkottai, has been rearing more than 300 goats for several years. On Friday, when he was taking the cattle to Suriyur in Tiruchy for grazing. On the way, near Mandaiyur in Tiruchy-Pudukkottai national highway, around 5.30 am, a TNSTC bus bound from Tiruchy to Pudukkottai ran over the herd and fled the place without stopping. As many as 50 goats died on the spot. On seeing this, Duraisamy along with the public chased the bus for around 20 kms and stopped the bus. By the time, the people caught the TNSTC bus driver identified as Kuppusamy (50), the police rushed to the spot and arrested Kuppusamy.


Meanwhile, Duraisamy who lost his goats claimed that they were worth around Rs 5 lakh and demanded compensation from the bus driver and staged a road block. However, the police pacified him and assured him of government assistance.
