CHENNAI: A 4-year-old male leopard was found dead in a private lemon plantation near Pernambut on Friday night.

The carcass was discovered by land owner Venumurthy (53) of Serangal village who immediately informed forest officials.

The latter reached the spot around 10 pm due to continuous rain, made preliminary enquires with Venumurthy and ordered for a post mortem today.

It may be recalled that a leopard cub was found dead in the near by Sathgar hills more than a year ago. Officials are checking to see if the cat was killed by any illegal fences set up by farmers to keep wild animals from their crops.
