The accused was identified as A Manikandan, a daily wage worker, residing near the airport. In August, a girl from the same locality went to the public toilet around noon. The accused also sneaked into the women’s toilet and allegedly sexually assaulted her and threatened her of dire consequences if she told about the incident to anyone. From then, he had reportedly sexually assaulted her multiple times.
As the girl’s health deteriorated, her mother took her to the Tiruchy GH for treatment where the doctors found that the girl was seven months pregnant.
When her mother enquired the girl, she informed that Manikandan sexually assaulted her several times. The mother then lodged a complaint with the Golden Rock All-Women Police Station, who registered a case against Manikandan under various sections of the IPC and POCSO Act. Later, the accused was arrested and remanded in judicial custody. Further investigation is on.
