Police said the deceased have been identified as T Milton Jayakumar (59) and Renila Rose (26) of Keezhakadayam in Tirunelveli district. Jayakumar was driving the car when the accident occurred at Pillayarnatham near Srivilliputtur at 2.45 am, sources said. The head-on collision was with a mini truck that proceeded from Sengottai to load fish from a market in Madurai, sources said. The deceased victims were returning from Madurai after shopping when the incident happened.
The Inspector of Srivilliputtur town, Pavul Yesudoss, inspected the accident spot. Based on a complaint lodged by Serabudin (43), the truck driver, the Srivilliputhur Town police filed a case under Sections 279 and 304 (A) of the IPC.
