2 from Maharashtra held in Tiruchy for attempting to circulate counterfeit currency

TIRUCHY: Tiruchy police arrested two persons from Maharashtra who had attempted to circulate counterfeit currency and seized worth Rs 8.37 lakh in Rs 200 denomination on Wednesday.

It is said that on Tuesday night, two persons who came by a car with Maharashtra registration, filled fuel in the Thuvakudi petrol bunk and gave counterfeit currency.

Soon, the employees in the petrol bunk contacted the Thuvakudi police and passed on the information.

Soon, the police conducted a vehicle inspection at Manjathidal check post, in which they intercepted the particular car and arrested the two persons who were identified as Ramesh Babu Rao and Narayanan, residents of Maharashtra. The police also seized Rs 8.37 lakh in counterfeit currencies of Rs 200 denomination in 40 bundles.

Subsequently, they were handed over to the CB-CID police. Upon interrogation, the duo had reportedly told the police that they had carried the fake currencies to circulate them in Tamil Nadu.
