2 footboarders fall off Kanniyakumari Express, die

After finishing work at the college on Thursday, both decided to return to their native place and boarded the Kanniyakumari Express. Sources say they were sitting on the train steps while travelling.

MADURAI: Two workers died after accidentally falling from a train near Ulundurpet. Balaji (33) of K.Kothanur village near Vepur in Cuddalore district, and Kandhasamy (29) of the same area, were working as cooking staff in a private college in Chennai.

After finishing work at the college on Thursday, both decided to return to their native place and boarded the Kanniyakumari Express. Sources say they were sitting on the train steps while travelling.

As the train was travelling between Parikkal and Ulundurpet railway stations in Kallakurichi district, near Sengurichi village, the duo unexpectedly slipped and fell. They sustained severe injuries and died on impact.

On information, Virudhachalam Railway Police Sub-Inspector Chinnappan and Ulundurpet police rushed to the spot, recovered the bodies and sent them to Ulundurpet GH for postmortem. Virudhachalam Railway Police are investigating the accident.
