150 sovereigns burgled from doctor’s house

Unidentified burglars escaped with 150 sovereigns of jewels and other valuables from a doctor’s house in Tiruverkadu.

Dr Sidharth, who worksin a private hospital, had gone out of town with his family members.


When they returned home on Wednesday morning, he found that the house was broken open and 150 sovereigns of jewels kept in the bureau were missing. Based on his complaint, the Tiruverkadu police have registered a case and further investigation is on.


Housemaid held for stealing


The Pondy Bazaar police have arrested a woman and her son for stealing 60 sovereigns from a lawyer’s house in T Nagar.


The accused, Jeyalakshmi, was working as a housemaid at the house of Vyjaynthi, a lawyer on Ram street, thepolice said.


On March 7, Vyjaynthi found that the jewels kept in the cupboard were missing and lodged a complaint at the Pondy Bazaar police station.


On suspicion, the police secured Jeyalakshmi and interrogation revealed that she and her son Vivek stole the jewels together and sold them for Rs 7 lakh.


“Vivek bought a brand-new bike with the stolen money, which was seized from him,” the police added. Both of them were remanded in judicial custody on Wednesday.
