Syed Modi tourney: Srikanth out, Sourabh, Rituparna in semis

Kidambi Srikanth lost in the quarterfinals to make an exit as Indian shuttlers Sourabh Verma and Rituparna Das advanced to the semifinals of the Syed Modi International tournament here on Friday.

Srikanth's run in the meet was ended by former world no. 1 Son Wan Ho. He went down 18-21, 19-21 to the Korean for his seventh loss in 11 meetings.

Meanwhile, Verman won 21-19, 21-16 against Thailand's Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the quarterfinal match. He will next take on Korea's Heo Kwang Hee for a place in the men's singles final.

In the women's singles, former national champion Das beat Shruti Mundada 24-26 21-10, 21-19 in an all-Indian quarters to make the last-four stage. Das will now face Thailand's Phittayaporn Chaiwan on Saturday.

In the doubles, the women's pair of Kuhoo Garg and Anoushka Parikh lost 15-21, 9-21 to Hong Kong duo of NG Wing Yung and Yeung Nga Ting.
