Local League: Rahil, Malolan star in Vijay CC victory

In a low-scoring match that got over inside two days, Vijay CC earned a 116-run win over Young Stars in the TNCA First Division league here on Tuesday.

Spinners from both the sides called the shots on a dramatic day where 20 wickets fell. With a first innings lead of 118 runs, Vijay CC was skittled out for 72 in its second innings. Promising left-arm spinner S Mohan Prasath took five for 35 to finish with a match haul of 11 for 82. 

The other five wickets were accounted for by off-spinner S Swaminathan (5/33). Set to chase 191, Young Stars never looked like getting there as it collapsed to 74 all out. Vijay’s spinners Rahil Shah (4/32) and Malolan Rangarajan (5/40) did the star turn sharing nine wickets between them. Rahil finished with match figures of 10 for 74. S Swaminathan was the top scorer for Young Stars with 16.
