At the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium in the city on Monday, DG Vaishnav got the better of Loyola 2-1 (20-25, 25-22, 25-16) in the summit clash. DG Vaishnav bagged the SNJ Group (Winner) Trophy, while Loyola received the SNJ Group (Runner-up) Trophy.
SDAT (Chennai) finished third in the competition by beating Agni Friends in straight sets (25-21, 25-16) in the play-offs contest. In the title decider, Loyola got off to a good start, pocketing the opening set comfortably.
However, it ran out of steam thereafter as DG Vaishnav picked up its pace. The victor drew parity in the encounter by clinching a closely-fought second set 25-22.
In the decider, DG Vaishnav was too hot to handle, running away with it to finish first in the championships.
In the play-offs match, SDAT (Chennai) was hardly stretched, with Agni Friends bowing out in just two sets.
Gold coins presented
Chennai District Volleyball Association President R Arjun Durai presented gold coins to the members of the Chennai District Junior Girls Team that won the Junior State Championship in Thiruvarur recently.
