Militant killed in encounter

A militant was killed in an encounter with Assam Rifles personnel in Chandel district bordering Myanmar today, police said.

migrator

The encounter took place at Chamol village, about 18 km from Chakpikarong police station, at around 5 am.

Additional forces have been rushed to the remote village, the police said.

The encounter comes barely two days after two Assam Rifles jawans were killed and six others were injured when militants exploded a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at Man Mani village in the same district.

In a statement emailed to the local media, the banned insurgent outfit Revolutionary Peoples Front (RPF) had claimed responsibility for Monday's attack.
