LG’s idea works as EB gets Rs 4 crore dues

As much as Rs 4 crore was collected within one hour of publishing the list of defaulters by the Electricity department.

Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi on Wednesday who made a surprise visit to the department’s head office here, where she conducted an inspection. 

She told news persons that over 25,000 consumers has defaulted in the payment of power tariff to the tune of several lakhs of rupees. 

Exhorting the public to remit all the pending taxes to the government, Bedi said in such a case there will not be any need to borrow from the budget. She said that the list of the defaulters in all departments would be published. 

The administration is taking steps to publish the list of defaulters in all the departments, she added. Bedi had directed the officials to publish the name of the defaulters in the media. After publishing their names, many of the defaulters cleared their arrears.
