Kerala project to give free internet gets cabinet nod

The K-FON is an ambitious roject of the state aiming o establish a massive Wide Area Network (WAN) and providing internet at cheaper rate to all government offices, schools and people in Kerala.

Kerala Cabinet on Wednesday gave its nod for K-FON (Kerala Fibre Optic Network) project, a joint venture by the Kerala State IT Infrastructure Ltd (KSITIL) and the Kerala State Electricity Board Limited (KSEBL), aiming to provide free internet facility to 20 lakh oor families.

The K-FON is an ambitious roject of the state aiming o establish a massive Wide Area Network (WAN) and providing internet at cheaper rate to all government offices, schools and people in Kerala, according to official sources here.

The Cabinet also approved the memorandum of association and article of association and decided to appoint a project management unit to ensure a professional support for the project, it added.
