A Delhi court on Saturday summoned senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, The Caravan magazine's editor Paresh Nath and its reporter Kaushal Sharoff as accused in a defamation plea filed by NSA Ajit Doval's son Vivek against the magazine.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal asked them to appear before the court on April 25.

The Caravan had alleged in its article, titled "The D-Companies", that Vivek Doval," runs a hedge fund in the Cayman Islands" which is "an established tax haven".

Vivek Doval's counsel DP Singh has told the court that the title of the article was itself "scandalous" and created "prejudice in the minds of readers against Vivek Doval and his family".

Vivek Doval, testifying as a complainant witness, had told the court earlier that "D Company" is a term coined for Dawood Ibrahim, India's most wanted criminal.

The lawyer added that Ramesh had cited the article and made defamatory allegations against Vivek Doval at a press conference.

On January 30, Vivek had recorded his statement before the court, saying all the allegations levelled by the magazine and later repeated by Ramesh at a press conference were "baseless" and "false" and damaged his reputation in the eyes of family members and professional colleagues.
