ITEF demands OPS restoration for central govt staff

TIRUCHY: The Income Tax Employees Federation (ITEF) of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Circle passed a resolution to press the union government to restore the Old Pension Scheme for the central government employees at a conference held in Tiruchy on Friday.

The president of the Federation, RR Shyamnath, presided over the 15th Delegates' Conference of the Federation held here, and the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Chennai D Sudhakara Rao, was present.

The conference resolved to stress to the union government to restore the old pension scheme to all the employees, with monetary benefits including the interim compensation of 20 per cent along with the basic pay.

They also insisted that the union government ensure filling up of vacancies and appointments based on the region.

While speaking among the participants, the Dindigul MP R Sachithanantham noted that the working-class people are facing several issues due to the anti-labour law implemented across the country.

He stated that the current labour policy implemented by the government is against the labourers, and the employment on compassionate grounds has not been implemented properly, becoming a threat to the working class people, particularly to those who are employed in the Public Sector Units.

He further said that the central government employees' unions have called for a protest on February 12, which would exhibit the solidarity of the working class.
