Four arrested for civic body worker’s murder

City police arrested four persons, including a woman on Thursday night for allegedly clubbing a worker of the Greater Chennai Corporation few days ago. Officials said the man was murdered for failing to repay the money he had borrowed.

The police identified the suspects as Sasi (42), Vadivelu (30), Sathya (32) and Chithra (27), all residents of Washermenpet. According to the police, Jegananthan, a 45-year-old a resident of Moolakothalam, was working at the city Corporation-run cemetery at Moolakothalam.

On Monday, he was allegedly kidnapped by a group of people. While he was being taken to the house of one of the suspects, they allegedly beat him repeatedly with a club. He sustained serious injuries and died soon afterwards.

The accused left behind the body and escaped from the spot. However, after investigation, the police identified and arrested the suspects on Thursday night.
