Youth ends life after hammering lover to death

In an incident reminiscent of a Hollywood horror movie, a youth hammered his lover to death after inviting her to Tiger Caves in Mamallapuram under the pretext of presenting a birthday gift. Later, the youth also committed suicide by hanging from a nearby tree using her shawl on Friday.

Police said, K John Mathew (22), a resident of the housing board quarters in Chemmencheri, was in a relationship with Jennifer Pushpa (20), a resident of Kottivakkam, for the last five years. 

John was working as a tailor after completing BSc. Jennifer, who completed BCA from a college in Nungambakkam and had secured a campus placement recently. 

Jennifer Pushpa, who had been in love with John Mathew for the past five years, told him that she wanted to end the relationship as he did not have a permanent job. Irked by this, John hatched a plan to murder Jennifer. 

He invited her to Mamallapuram saying that he wanted to give her a birthday gift before parting ways. Believing John’s words, Jennifer went to Mamallapuram with him on a two-wheeler on Friday. After spending time together at the beach till evening, the two went to the nearby Tiger Caves where John opened the gift box he was carrying with him. Jennifer was shocked to see a hammer inside. Even before Jennifer could realise John’s plan and flee the spot, he smashed her head with the hammer. 

A profusely bleeding Jennifer fell to the ground. After confirming that she was dead, John took her shawl and hung himself from a casuarina tree nearby. 

Local residents, who found the bodies, alerted the Mamallapuram police. A police team came to the spot, recovered the bodies and sent them to the Government Chengalpattu Hospital for post-mortem. A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
