World Homeless Day: Mayor flagged off awareness cycle rally

The Greater Chennai Corporation has established 50 homeless shelters and rehabilitated many destitute people living on the roadsides in the city. On World Homeless Day, as many as 39 homeless people were rescued.

CHENNAI: To create awareness among the public on World Homeless Day, which is observed on October 10 every year. Chennai corporation mayor R Priya flagged off cycle rally at Island grounds on Saturday.

The Greater Chennai Corporation has established 50 homeless shelters and rehabilitated many destitute people living on the roadsides in the city. On World Homeless Day, as many as 39 homeless people were rescued.

Various awareness programs such as street plays, folk dance, puppet shows, and signature campaigns on the same day. From Oct 10-19 sports competitions and art programs are being conducted in the city.

Chennai deputy mayor M Magesh Kumar, Chairman standing committee (Public health) Dr G Shanthakumari, Dr M Jagadeesan, city public health officer, and other senior officials were part of the event..
