Woman run over by bus on Anna Salai, driver held

A 59-year-old woman was run over by an MTC bus while her husband escaped with minor injuries after falling from their two-wheeler on Anna Salai.

The incident happened on Friday evening when the deceased, Ezhilarasi of T Nagar, and her husband Suriya Narayanan (61) were returning home on the two-wheeler via Anna Salai. Near Church Park school, Suriya Narayanan tried to overtake a car, but in the process was hit by a Vandalur-bound MTC bus (route No E 18) from behind. Suriya Narayanan lost balance and the duo fell on the road. Ezhilarasi she was run over by the MTC bus. Shocked motorists rescued Suriya Narayanan and rushed him to the Government Royapettah Hospital. Adyar Traffic Investigation police registered a case and booked the MTC driver, Venkatesan (40) of Tindivanam. Ezhilarasi’s body was handed over to the relatives on Saturday after post-mortem examination.
