The incident happened on Wednesday evening when the victim was alone in her house on Patel Salai.

Two men who entered her house threatened her by pointing a fake pistol at her and demanded that she part with valuables. However, the woman pushed them off and locked them in the house. After she raised an alarm, neighbours alerted the police control and opened the door. While one of them managed to escape, the other was secured and handed over to police.

He was identified as E Senthilkumar (32) of Ramanathapuram district who lives in Vyasarpadi with his family. The pistol in his possession was fake, said an official.

Police said Senthilkumar was working as a construction labourer and did not have any proper job during the lockdown. “So, he resorted to robbery,” added police. While Senthilkumar was remanded in judicial custody on Thursday, a hunt has been launched for the other suspect
