Woman, daughter die in accident; husband, another daughter injured

Police said Palani of Orikkai village near Kancheepuram, who works in the secretariat, his wife Vidya and their 7-year-old twin daughters, Poornika and Poorvika, were going to their relative’s house on Wednesday morning.

CHENNAI: A woman and one of her twin daughters died while the husband and the other twin suffered injuries when a sand lorry hit the bike on which the family was travelling, in Kancheepuram on Wednesday. Police said Palani of Orikkai village near Kancheepuram, who works in the secretariat, his wife Vidya and their 7-year-old twin daughters, Poornika and Poorvika, were going to their relative’s house on Wednesday morning.

When they reached Gandhi Nagar near Uthiramerur, a sand lorry that came from behind rammed the bike, throwing them off the bike. As the lorry went on without stopping, the onlookers immediately alerted the ambulance service and the police, but Vidya and Poornika were declared dead on the spot.

Poorvika and Palani, who suffered severe injuries, were rushed to Kancheepuram GH. The Kancheepuram Taluk police have registered a case and are trying to identify the lorry.
