Water supply to be hit in central and south Chennai tomorrow

According to a Metrowater press release, work to link 500mm pipe with 2,000mm pipe of the treatment plant will be carried out between 10 am to 10 pm on Friday.

CHENNAI: Water supply in several areas in south and central Chennai zones will be affected on Friday as the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (Metrowater) has decided to stop the operation of Chembarambakkam Water Treatment Plant to undertake interlinking of pipes works.

According to a Metrowater press release, work to link 500mm pipe with 2,000mm pipe of the treatment plant will be carried out between 10 am to 10 pm on Friday. Due to the works, the plant that has a capacity of 530 MLD (million litres per day) will be stopped.

The release added that the water supply to Ambattur, Anna Nagar, Teynampet, Kodambakkam, Valasaravakkam, Alandur, Adyar and Perungudi zones will be temporarily stopped from 10 am to 10 pm on Friday.

The water manager has requested the residents to store adequate water in advance. Also, residents can contact area engineers if they require lorry water supply for urgent needs.

Of the 992 million litres of water supplied to the city on Wednesday, as much as 263 million litres was sent from Chembarambakkam water treatment plant.
