When the train reached the junction around 3.20 am, the toilet of a coach at the rear end of the train was found locked from inside.

After a passenger informed RPF personnel that the toilet has been locked for about three hours, constable K Shanmugam called the mechanical department staff and broke open the toilet door.

They found a woman in her late 30s dead. She used her shawl to make the noose and tied it around the knob and hung herself in a kneeling position.

The railway police removed the body and sent it to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital for post-mortem examination. The police haven’t established the victim’s identity as her belongings were not found on the train.

An inquiry is underway to find more details pertaining to the case.
