CHENNAI: Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Sunday inaugurated and reviewed a series of infrastructure projects in the Broadway area under the North Chennai Development Programme. He inaugurated a 33/11 kV power substation on Davidson Road, built by Tangedco at a cost of Rs 18.24 crore.

The facility has been commissioned with two 8 MVA transformers and five new 11 kV feeders, aimed at resolving low-voltage issues and ensuring uninterrupted power supply. Officials said the substation will benefit over 15,000 commercial and residential consumers. Power load from the existing East George Town, Flower Bazaar, and High Court substations will also be partially diverted to the new facility.

The Deputy CM later inspected the construction of underground and overhead water storage tanks being built at a cost of Rs 27 crore in the Harbour Assembly constituency. Each tank has a capacity of 15 lakh litres, and Metro Water Board officials were directed to expedite the works.

He also made available for public use 128 new streetlights on Prakasam Road, installed by the Greater Chennai Corporation at a cost of Rs 1.26 crore.
