Two women guest workers killed in accident at brick kiln

Two women migrant workers from Odisha died while loading red bricks on a truck at a kiln near Minjur as a pile of bricks collapsed and fell on them on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Madhana (18) and Parimala (22) and the incident happened at Vazhudhigaimedu village near Minjur in Tiruvallur district. The kiln is said to be owned by one Sudhakar and has been allegedly functioning despite the lockdown.

As the two women, along with a few others, were involved in loading the truck, one part of the deck collapsed and fell on them. Shocked workers removed the bricks and pulled the women out but by then they had died. Their bodies were sent to Ponneri Government Hospital for postmortem.

On information, Ponneri Tahsildar and revenue officials rushed to the spot and conducted inquiries. Based on their complaint, Minjur Inspector registered a case and further investigation is on. Meanwhile, fellow workers at the kiln staged a protest demanding compensation to the kin of the deceased.
