Chennai: Gold price rises by Rs 400, silver remains unchanged on May 7, 2026

CHENNAI: Gold rate increased in the city on Thursday May 7 by Rs 400 per sovereign (8 grams).

The yellow metal is now priced at Rs 1,13,200 per sovereign and Rs 14,150 per gram, after an increase of Rs 50.

On May 6 evening, gold closed at Rs 1,12,800 per sovereign and Rs 14,100 per gram.

Silver prices remain unchanged

Silver prices remained unchanged to sell for Rs 275 per gram (Rs 2,75,000 per kg) on May 7. On May 6, silver was sold at Rs 275 per gram (Rs 2,75,000 per kg).

Gold rate today vs same day last year

Gold remains significantly higher compared to last year. Prices have surged from Rs 72,600 per sovereign (Rs 9,075 per gram) on May 7, 2025, to Rs 1,13,200 per sovereign (Rs 14,150 per gram) on May 7, 2026, marking an increase of Rs 40,600 or about 55.92%.
