Truck rams into auto, kills vendor in Chennai

CHENNAI: A 58-year-old man died while three others sustained injuries after a container truck rammed into an autorickshaw in Koyambedu early on Thursday.

The deceased was Rasu (58), a vegetable vendor from Perambalur.

Early Thursday morning, Rasu had come to the Koyambedu market along with two others, Raja and Gauri. They had boarded an autorickshaw driven by Naveen. While they were on Poonamallee High Road, a container lorry tailing them lost control and crashed into the vehicle.

All occupants were thrown to the ground on impact, and Rasu died on the spot after sustaining head injuries. The other three were rushed to a nearby hospital. The police recovered Rasu’s body and sent it to the KMCH for post-mortem.

A search is on for the lorry driver, who fled the scene after the accident.
