Triple murder: Chennai police arrest five accused in killing of Bihar man, wife, 3-yr-old child

Police sources said searches are under way at the Perungudi dumpyard and along the banks of the Cooum river, based on statements given by the suspects.

CHENNAI: The Chennai police have arrested five persons in connection with the murder of the Bihar migrant worker’s family. The arrested accused are Sikandar (33), Narender Kumar (45), Rabindranath Tagore (45), Bikas (24), and an accused who is yet to be identified.

The murders came to light after the body of a migrant worker was found in a gunny bag in Indira Nagar 1st Avenue, Adyar, on Monday morning. During the investigation, the police found that the assailants had murdered his wife and three-year-old child as well and disposed of their bodies.

Police sources said searches are under way at the Perungudi dumpyard and along the banks of the Cooum river, based on statements given by the suspects.

On Monday (January 26) morning, residents noticed a blood-stained sack and grew suspicious, following which they alerted the police. A team from the Adyar police station rushed to the spot and secured the sack. Upon unwrapping it, police found the body of a man with multiple injuries, suggesting that he had been murdered.

Later, police identified the victim as Gaurav Kumar, a native of Bihar, who had come to the city to work as a security guard. According to police sources, CCTV footage from the neighbourhood shows two men on a motorcycle carrying the sack, purportedly containing Gaurav Kumar’s body, around midnight on Sunday.

Further investigation is under way to ascertain the motive behind the murders.
