Trio poses as policemen, escapes with two-wheeler

Three men conned a two-wheeler rider posing as police personnel and escaped with his bike on Arcot Road on Tuesday night.

The victim, Vignesh (19) of Saligramam, was returning home when three men waiting with two bikes on Arcot Road in Virugambakkam stopped him. After asking him to show the documents of the vehicles and driver licence, they took his bike and asked him to go to Virugambakkam station.


When Vignesh reached the station on Wednesday morning, he learnt that the police did not seize his vehicle and that he was taken for a ride.


Based on his complaint, the police registered a case and launched a hunt for the suspects with the help of CCTV footage.


Duo held for cheatingman of Rs 8 lakh

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths have arrested a duo for cheating a man of Rs 8 lakh and threatened him by claiming one of them is a policeman.


The victim, Yuvaraj of Maduravoyal, reportedly gave Rs 8 lakh to one Karthik alias Siva (38) of Tiruverkadu, who is as a part-time driver, as the latter wanted to start a business. However, when he demanded the money back, Siva sent his friend, M Jaishankar alias Vijayakumar (46) of Otteri, to threaten him. Jaishankar allegedly told Yuvaraj that he is police personnel attached to the Gangsters team of CCB and warned him to stay away from Siva.


Based on his complaint, CCB sleuths registered a case and arrested them. They were remanded in judicial custody.
