Tiruma-Stalin meet likely at DK’s protest

Whether Dravidar Kazhagam’s demonstration against Centre’s new education policy would draw the attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi bhakts in New Delhi may be in doubt. But it will leave a few in Vaiko-led PWF (People’s Welfare Front) mildly disturbed.

Estranged and influential members of DMK and VCK would be among the leaders who converge at Valluvar Kottam on Monday to question Modi’s education policy. Dravidar Kazhagam vice-president Kali Poongundran confirmed that VCK has given its word and they were only unsure of the participant.  However, DTNext has reliably learnt that the Dalit party leadership has gladly agreed to rub shoulders with the Leader of Opposition M K Stalin, whose participation is no secret now. Ask party VCK and DMK insiders and they do not disagree that the meeting is long overdue.

Grapevine has it that the Dalit party leaders have been urging Dravidar Kazhagam chief K Veeramani to organise a public meeting inclusive of the DMK for a while now.  It requires no great political wisdom to comprehend the discomfiture of leaders of other constituent PWF parties, which have been insisting that their alliance would continue for the ensuing civic polls.

If the VCK delegate is Tirumavalavan for the demonstration, it would only further worry the PWF where the two Left parties had cautiously abstained from an all-party meet called by the DK earlier. However, some DMK insiders contended that Stalin is not all too happy about exchanging pleasantries with Tirumavalavan. In a recent interview to a Tamil Magazine, the Dalit leader had criticised Stalin’s style of politicking, even while subtly appreciating Karunanidhi’s commitment to rationalist principles.

“He (Stalin) did not like comparison. I doubt if Stalin would really want to meet Tiruma tomorrow. Stalin might leave early. Don’t forget. He has to attend the Assembly on Monday,” said a DMK leader, who foresaw no great political realignment any time before the civic polls due in October. Though repeated attempts to contact Tirumavalavan proved futile, VCK sources in the know of things admitted that their leader was always for maintaining a cordial relationship with the DMK leaders. Perhaps, the VCK participant might preach the virtues of even opposing parties coming together for a common good or when public interest stands threatened.
