CHENNAI: A public music programme based on the Thirukkural and classical Tamil literary works will be held at Marina Beach on January 11, as part of Thirukkural Week. The event is scheduled to begin at 6 pm and is open to the public.

The event will feature musical renditions of select Thirukkural couplets and songs drawn from classical Tamil literature. The compositions, developed over several years by music composer James Vasanthan, will be presented in a concert format.

The State government had announced in December 2024 that Thirukkural Week would be observed every January. Following the announcement, a range of activities have been organised across the state, including conferences on the Thirukkural, competitions for government staff and the general public, literary and arts contests for college students, dramas and debate programmes.
