CHENNAI: A national seminar on "AI, law and regulation: Shaping the Future of Education, Profession and Justice" was held on Thursday, bringing together leading jurists, academics, policymakers, and industry experts to deliberate on the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on law and governance.

The session featured addresses by Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services, along with speakers including Professor C Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, OP Jindal Global University, and Justice Michael Wilson, former judge, Supreme Court of Hawaii.

The seminar was jointly organised by the Cyril Shroff Centre for AI, Law and Regulation at Jindal Global Law School and the Centre for Justice through Technology at Vinayaka Mission's Law School, Chennai.

The seminar was structured across three thematic sessions addressing key dimensions of AI and law. Further, the sessions focused on evolved legal frameworks governing emerging technologies, the intersection of AI with justice systems and legal education.

Across sessions, participants highlighted the urgent need for principled regulation, institutional preparedness, and interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure that technological advancements enhance, rather than undermine, access to justice and the rule of law.

The seminar emphasised capacity building, ethical frameworks, and policy innovation as central to navigating the evolving landscape of AI in law.

The occasion also marked the release of the AI Governance Report 2026 by Jindal Global University, underscoring the growing importance of regulatory frameworks in the age of artificial intelligence.
