“All departments of Secretariat are hereby informed that the entire Secretariat buildings will be shutdown for 48 hours, from Saturday to Sunday, to carry out the disinfection works,” Public Department secretary P Senthil Kumar said in an order.

After the State government opened all its offices with 50 per cent staff strength, Secretariat turned out to be a cluster with close to 100 officials testing positive. Following the high number of cases, the government issued a Government Order (GO) to close all the government offices on second Saturdays and Sundays to undertake sanitisation works.

Based on the GO, the Public Department, which is in-charge of the Secretariat campus, called for shutting down the offices of all the departments functioning inside Secretariat campus to undertake sanitisation works. “All the departments of Secretariat are requested to handover the keys of the halls, rooms and chambers of secretaries to the government for sanitisation works,” Senthil Kumar added in the order.
