Even as a large number of parents wondered if education institutions would be functional today, Chennai district Collector Rashmi Siddharth Zagade confirmed that both schools and colleges would function as usual, said a Thanthi TV report.

In a similar announcement, Villupuram Collector C Palani stated that schools and colleges in the jurisdiction would also function as usual.

Meanwhile, Chief Secretary Muruganandam sent an urgent letter to all district Collectors and police officers in view of the red alert that has been issued for Tamil Nadu, directing them to take preventative measures before the anticipated heavy rainfall.

Heavy rains are predicted for Tamil Nadu starting from Tuesday (October 15), and strengthening over the next three days. To reduce possible damages, the officials were told to put flood protection and relief measures in place.
