CHENNAI: According to the senior officials, the government has directed revenue officials, fair price shop staff and others involved in the work to take photographs in front of the flooded houses using a newly developed application.

“Along with the photograph of the applicants, they should also record all the information of the applicants who applied for Rs 6,000 flood relief aid, such as Aadhaar number, bank account details, telephone and mobile numbers,” the officials noted.

Based on the direction, village administrative officers, panchayat secretaries and ration shop staff will start the process of scrutinising the eligible beneficiaries.

After the devastation caused by the torrential rain brought in by Cyclone Michaung, the State government had announced Rs 6,000 as Cyclone Michaung relief aid to the people of Chennai, and select taluks in Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu districts.

Immediately after the announcement of providing financial aid to the flood-hit households, around 5.55 lakh people, including income tax payers and white ration card holders, applied for it. However, the government has decided to provide it only to those whose houses were completely damaged or partially flooded.
