Rowdy attacks policemen who tried to apprehend him

The rowdy threatened the policemen and when they tried to capture him, he broke the beer bottle and slashed it across the faces of the policemen, injuring them seriously.

CHENNAI: Two policemen who went to apprehend a rowdy who was creating a ruckus at a neighbourhood in Mogappair were seriously injured after the rowdy allegedly attacked them with a broken beer bottle on Friday night.

Police sources said that the rowdy, Manikandan of J J Nagar was creating a ruckus in his neighbourhood in an inebriated state. On information, head constables Nandagopal and Rayappan attached to J J Nagar police station rushed to the scene to apprehend him.

The rowdy threatened the policemen and when they tried to capture him, he broke the beer bottle and slashed it across the faces of the policemen, injuring them seriously.

Manikandan fled the scene. A patrol team rushed to the scene and rescued the injured policemen and admitted them to a private hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.

Police have launched a search for Manikandan.
