Railway staffer, who got job after father died in train accident, dies in similar mishap in Tiruvottiyur

CHENNAI: In a tragic quirk of fate, a 23-year-old youth, who got a job in the Indian Railways as electrician on compassionate grounds after his father died in a train accident while in service, was killed in a similar manner near Tiruvottiyur on Thursday evening.

According to officials, Kishore Kumar, the victim, was working as an electrician in the Railways in Tiruvallur.

While he was crossing the railway track between Tiruvottiyur and VOC Nagar stations to reach work on Thursday evening, he did not notice the Charlapalli Super Fast Express from MGR Chennai Central railway station–Charlapalli coming at a high speed, said the police. The train struck Kishore, who died on the spot, said officials.

The public who saw his body immediately alerted the Government Railway police, after which a team of officials came to the spot and recovered the body, which was sent to Government Stanley Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.

During their investigations, the police found that Kishore Kumar obtained the job in Railways on compassionate grounds after his father, Venugopal, also a railway employee, died in a train accident earlier.

Further investigation is under way.
