Rahul Gandhi to arrive in Chennai today; security beefed up

Heavy security arrangements have been made for Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, who is coming to Chennai today to start the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

CHENNAI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is reported to leave New Delhi today evening and will reach Chennai airport around 8 pm, according to a Daily Thanthi report.

He will be welcomed at the airport by Congress party members. He is reported to stay in Chennai for the night and will go to Sriperumbudur by car from Chennai tomorrow (Wednesday) morning to pay his respects at the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial. Later, he will return to Chennai by car from there and will take a flight from to Thiruvananthapuram at 11.40 am.

On the occasion of Rahul Gandhi's arrival, steps have been taken to strengthen the security arrangements at the Chennai airport.

Earlier, a few sources reported that Rahul will take part in a prayer meeting at former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi’s memorial in Sriperumbudur and attend an event in Kanniyakumari where Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin will hand over the national flag to him.
