Policemen on security duty cry foul over lack of facilities

An audio clip highlighting the ‘plight’ of policemen deployed for security duty for VVIPs staying in a star hotel on Anna Salai has been going viral on WhatsApp groups.

The clip alleges that the hotel authorities had refused to provide space within the premises for the personnel to stay and sleep.

The policemen on security duty alleged that they were forced to sleep on the pavement near the hotel where VVIP from Australia has been staying. It may be recalled that Madras High Court had recently remarked about unnecessary deployment of police personnel to guard empty bungalows and memorials in the city.

A senior police officer, however, pointed out that the policemen who were on security duty were not supposed to sleep there.

“There may be turn duty for them and policemen reporting for the alternative duty will have to be provided shelter at the nearby armed reserve barracks along with arrangements for food. We cannot demand food and stay facility from hotels,” the officer added.
