Ganga is a 28-year-old widow from Kerala who moved to Chennai with her son Arun after her husband’s death. They had been living in Ranga Nagar in Chitlapakkam for five months.

Ganga took up a job in a firm and got into a relationship with 35-year-old Venkatesan. According to the police, Venkatesan was married but had separated from his wife. He began to live with Ganga in Chitlapakkam.

Last week Ganga had gone to Kerala and had asked Venkatesan to take care of Arun. On Wednesday night Venkatesan called Ganga to say that Arun was vomiting repeatedly and had to be admitted to Egmore children’s hospital. On Thursday morning, Ganga reached Chennai and found out from the doctors that Arun was dead and that it was not because the boy had suffered severe injuries like falling down from a great height.

When Ganga tried to contact Venkatesan, she found mobile phone was out of reach and he was not at home. She filed a complaint with the Chitlapakkam police. A case was registered and the police are currently looking for Venkatesan. The police said that the actual reason for the three-year-old’s death can be figured out only after getting the autopsy report.
