Patrol team nabs snatching duo, recovers phones, bikes

A bike-borne duo, who snatched mobile phones from two pedestrians within just 30 minutes in Triplicane on Saturday night, were chased and caught by a police patrol team. Two mobile phones and two stolen two-wheelers were recovered from them.

The accused were identified as M Mukesh (21) of Elephant Gate and D Vishwa (22) of Vyasarpadi. They first snatched a mobile phone from one A Sikkandar Basha (37) of Tirumangalam near the Triplicane Fire Station around 9 am and fled the spot. Around 9.20 am, the duo snatched the phone from another pedestrian, A Harikrishnan (29) of Ulundurpet, on Pallavan Salai. When Harikrishnan raised an alarm, a police team on patrol who were crossing the spot, chased the duo. On noticing the police team, the duo abandoned the two-wheeler and tried to flee. But they were secured and brought to the police station. Inquiries revealed that the bike in their possession was stolen from Ice House. Two mobile phones were also recovered from them.


Based on their confession, they were taken to Red Hills from where another stolen bike was recovered. They are being interrogated and would be remanded in judicial custody.
