Over 99 lakh passengers travelled in Chennai Metro Rail in August

As per a CMRL press note, 48.71 lakh passengers used Singara Chennai card, 2.24 lakh used travel card and 21.74 lakh passengers used single journey paper QR /token.

CHENNAI: In August, the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) recorded a passenger ridership of 99.09 lakh, which is a bit less than the ridership in July (over one crore). The highest ridership was recorded on August 14 with 4.09 lakh passengers.

As per a CMRL press note, 48.71 lakh passengers used Singara Chennai card, 2.24 lakh used travel card and 21.74 lakh passengers used single journey paper QR /token.

Additionally, online QR tickets like WhatsApp (6.12 lakh), Paytm (4.28 lakh), PhonePe (3.45 lakh), Open Network for Digital Commerce (7.58 lakh) and CMRL app (1.82 lakh) also saw a good amount of passengers using the service.

Meanwhile, the overall ridership in 2025 was 86.99 lakh in January, 86.65 lakh in February, 92.10 lakh in March, 87.59 lakh in April, 89.09 lakh in May, 92.19 lakh in June and 1.03 crore in July. Due to this, the average monthly ridership of CMRL has also spiked to 3.50 lakh per day.
