Officials seize Rs 5 lakhs worth US dollars

The air intelligence unit of Chennai Customs intercepted a Colombobound passenger on Tuesday morning and seized Rs 5 lakh worth US dollars from him.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of the Customs department intercepted stopped Mohammed Faisal, a resident of Chennai, when he was about to board a flight to Colombo from the city airport. When the team checked his baggage, they found several bundles of US Dollars.

1 kg smuggled gold seized 

In another incident, customs arrested an Andhra native and seized 1 kg of gold that was smuggled into the country from Qatar. According to sources, they intercepted Sriramulu when he arrived.  The officials waited till he competed his customs clearance, to  confirm whether he made any self-declaration.  However, Sriramulu failed to do so.  Immediately, the officials intercepted and when they checked his baggage, they found 10 gold bars weighing around 1 kg hidden in an emergency lamp.
