SSN College of Engineering was founded by Dr Shiv Nadar, Chairman of HCL Technologies. The college, which had a humble beginning in 1996, has grown into a reputed centre of academic excellence and research in emerging technologies. It is today ranked among the top 10 private engineering colleges in the country. 

According to Dr Shiv Nadar, “The founding vision of SSN springs from a belief in India and her future generations. I firmly believe that there is a lot of young talent here in India. With good stewardship and encouragement, they can rise to the highest levels globally in technology and leadership.” 

SSN has a three-pronged vision: to be a global technology-led research university, serve society by providing life-changing opportunities to academically bright, but economically challenged students, and to create model citizens who contribute professionally and socially to the nation. 

As an exemplary institution of learning, SSN follows an admission policy that strongly favours merit, even as it enables access to education for students from all strata of society through appropriate scholarships. SSN provides a stimulating environment for intellectual development, free-thinking and personal growth, challenging its students with dynamic learning opportunities and equipping them with the skills, insights, attitudes and practical experiences that are necessary to take up responsibilities in the industry and society at large.

What stands out: 

The SSN Management funds innovative student projects. In 2015, over 100 students were funded to the tune of Rs 23 lakh. A dedicated innovation centre has been set up to encourage students for product development. More than 65 per cent of SSN faculty members hold doctoral degrees and another 30 per cent are pursuing PhDs from reputed Indian and foreign universities. 

Over 600 scholarships worth more than Rs 4 crore are offered each year under different categories which include merit, merit cum means and sports. The college also offers a rural scholarship scheme to encourage first generation learners. More than 20 per cent of students at SSN are first generation learners.

SSN ensures that it students are not just academically bright, but also sensitive to the needs of the community. SSN students engage in social service through NSS and the Youth Red Cross. SSN has continuously received the ‘Best NSS unit award’ and the ‘Best NSS Volunteer Award’ by Anna University for the past four years. 

Illustrious alumni:

SSN alumni are today working in a diverse range of organisations in India and abroad. SSN graduates are also active in a wide variety of areas such as research and entrepreneurship, thus demonstrating their ability to shine across geographies and industries. Some of the prominent SSN alumni, are R Ashwin who plays for the Indian cricket team and was awarded the Arjuna Award for the year 2015; Murugan Ashwin is currently playing for Rising Pune Supergiants, Karthick, IPS, Poornima Pandian, IRS, Shyamal Rao, vice president, Morgan Stanley, Manav Chauhan, director, Patent Analytics and R Rasi Subramanian, founder, Behindwoods.com.
